Pianist Makiko Hirata has a vision to make each of her performance a vessel for unique communal sensory experience. Her programs, often with a theme, emphasizes the universal power of music to communicate, and the opportunity for each of us to empathize and resonate. She has given recitals, lecture recitals, concerto performances and children’s concerts in North and South America, Europe and her native Japan in venues such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Coolidge Auditorium in the Library of Congress, and Tanglewood. She has collaborated with distinguished groups and musicians such as the Jupiter Symphony Orchestra and Spectrum Symphony in NYC, the Pecs Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, Polish Philharmonia of Resovia, conductor Leon Fleisher, clarinetist David Krakauer, and pianist Sara Davis Buechner. Passionate about sharing music not just through performances, she has also taught at New York University, Colburn Conservatory of Music, Rice University, and Lone Star College. She has appeared on TV and radio programs both, and produced “Poco Piano” - a YouTube series of introductory talks about music.
