Barbara Ames

Piano 

Barbara has a diverse background in piano performance, choral conducting, Orff and Kodaly training, with extensive experience in music education from elementary level through middle school at Columbia Grammar and Prep School, Hunter College Elementary School, Satellite West Junior High, and P.S. 9K. In January, on Martin Luther King. Jr. Day, Barbara received a special tribute from her former student at Hunter, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of “Hamilton”. Barbara is currently director of Junior and Intermediate Choruses at Mannes The New School for Music, Prep Division, (was founder/director of the independent Celebration Youth Chorus, formerly in residence at Mannes Prep), and member of The Aviva Players, most recently as music director/pianist for “Villa Diodati”, an opera composed by Mira Spektor. Educated at Juilliard Prep, with BA and MS in music from Brooklyn College, and postgraduate courses at Teachers’ College of Columbia Univ, and N.Y.U.
