The 2017 Serge & Olga Koussevitzky Young Artist Awards, sponsored by the Musicians Club of New York, will be held April 21-23, 2017. The competition, which cycles annually through strings, piano, winds/brass and voice, will be a strings competition this year, open to violin, viola, cello and bass players aged 18 to 35. The Finals Concert will be held on Sunday, April 23, 4:00 PM, at Victor Borge Hall, Scandinavia House, New York City. The Awards Ceremony will be presented at the Musicians Club of New York's Joseph H. Conlin Benefit Gala on Saturday, May 13, 6:00 PM, at Victor Borge Hall. All Finalist and Gala performances will be videotaped and a copy provided to the artists.
Requirements include three rounds of 15 minutes each of solo recital repertoire, which must be approved in advance, and a letter of recommendation from a school or teacher. In lieu of a letter of recommendation, prize winners of any major open competition may also be accepted.
Application Fee: $65 - You can pay by mailing in a check (address on application) or with your credit card on Square Market using this link. You can also fill out your credit card information on the application form. A maximum of 48 competitors will be accepted. Anyone who applies and is not accepted will have their application fee refunded.
Deadline: Friday, April 14, 2017
Prizes: $3,000 / $2,000 / $1,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd awards plus a recital on the Musicans Club of New York's Concert Series the following season, including two $300 performance fees for each winner and accompanist.
If the Finals Concert is filmed, it will appear on Manhattan Public Access cable television, after which the Musicians Club of New York will get a copy with full rights. Excerpts from the Finals Concert will be put on the Musicians Club of New York's website through YouTube; in addition to the YouTube links, all Finalists will have access to a copy of their performance for their own unrestricted promotional use.
All participants may request their cumulative scores in Artistry and Virtuosity and any judges' comments.
